A skimmer pool is the classic, most widely built swimming pool design in Dubai. The water level sits a few inches below the pool’s coping edge. Along the pool walls, near the waterline, built-in openings called skimmers draw surface water and floating debris—leaves, dust, insects—into filter baskets that are cleaned during regular maintenance visits.
No overflow edge. No balance tank. The water stays within the pool walls at all times, and the filtration system works through those skimmer inlets and a main drain at the bottom.
Calling this design “basic” would be unfair. Some of Dubai’s most beautifully finished villa pools — premium tiles, LED lighting, water features, and elegant coping—are skimmer pools. The design simply doesn’t rely on the overflow effect to look good.
